You know how we all have a list of top ten people we’d like to meet? I want to introduce you to someone in my top five. I have not yet read his books (they are on my to buy list- but ironically I have read most of his suggested books); However, I have read a whole lot of his research and it is outstanding and inspiring work.
I have been following Professor James. W Pennebaker for a few years now and if you are not familiar with his research I hope you will acquaint yourself with it, because he, his colleagues and students have made some of the most significant discoveries in the field of journal writing research.
If you are using your journal writing for personal growth, to explore the mental and physical health connection, or as a way to overcome past traumatic events in your life, I highly suggest you check out all that this expressive writing pioneer has to freely offer.
Professor Pennebaker is a Social Psychologist in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. His original research connected the aspect of writing with the ability to heal- in both mental health and physical health. His writing research has been replicated and elaborated on over the years since the early years of initial publication.
