A Poet Responds to a Painting

Recently I received some fabulous mail from a Canadian friend. It was chock full of the kind of ephemera we journaling types adore.  Canada is celebrating it’s 150th birthday this year but it seems I get the presents. She included a lovely Starbucks Canadian travel mug I have been toting back and forth on my out and about town excursions. One of the exquisite treasures I received was an artist post card. On it was a painting I felt incredibly drawn to, above the many lovely images sent. As I tipped it (taped it with washi tape) into my journal, I was inspired to write a poem.

Poetry continues to be a powerful pathway for me. I believe it is a pathway for  many things, connection, community, and conversation. Art offers the same  to all in its various forms. There is no limit to where the imagination can lead. I  find inspiration in both artwork and artist, so be sure and check out the artist whose work inspired the poem below:  Shannon Ford. I know you will find her work incredible to  see!

If God asks that you bend, bend and do not complain. He is making you more flexible, and for this be thankful. ~Terri Guillemets

Welcome!

Today, I am extending an invitation of sorts. A few moments with your pen, paper and quietness as it finds you. Grab your journal, scrap paper or whatever is available.

Gifts for the Dreamers, Writers and Otherwise Creative Friends on Your List

I got a message earlier this week from a friend inquiring about “journaling” gifts and asking for my suggestions. She gave me a brief description of who she was buying for and wondered what I would specifically recommend.

Well, shopping with other people’s money is my joy! Even if only in my head. Opinions I have, and opinions I share. So, since this is a question I get often, I have decided to share some of my very favorite repeat purchase products for journaling.

I’ll catch my planner people with another post.

Have You Ever Seen a Walking Butterfly? Birthday Bundle Giveaway

PicMonkey Collageccccssssbbb

Yesterday I stated that the best way to celebrate your birthday every day is by giving yourself away. I want to clarify. I’m not talking about selling yourself out, or being taken advantage of in any way- don’t misunderstand.

I am talking about being a willing giver.

We all have something to give, don’t we? Whether time, talent, cash, caring or creativity. None of us is ever truly empty-handed.

Each year as my birthday rolls around, I start to thinking what I would like to have…only to come to the same conclusion, I really need nothing.
