My Darling Personal Assistant (A bit about Planner Love for those who understand or long to)

I bet some of you didn’t know I have a Personal Assistant.

When I meet with her regularly she really helps me stay on track with the things I need to do, such as appointments, obligations and commitments. I mean, who doesn’t need a personal assistant these days with so much ado about nothing?

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not like she does the work I need to do for me, she just reminds me, guides me and keeps me from forgetting important stuff. Occasionally she has  a spiffy quote to lay on me. Usually she looks fabulous, but I know that’s not what’s really important. I just am so impressed with her polished appearance at times, I mean, if she’s my sidekick and looks good, that must mean something about the company she keeps.

Well, that Personal Assistant is obviously, my personal planner. But, she is worth her weight in gold when I do my part.

On her own, she holds no power, no magic and no ability to do anything at all. As a matter of fact, I can dress her and decorate her (she is a peach like that, and adores the attention!) and let her sit by her lonesome, like a schoolgirl dressed for the prom without a date, if I choose.

She has a more than a few cousins that have met their own demises that way and remain in a closet awaiting the day they will be loved back into usefulness. Their embellishments hearken to days of attention, enjoyment and memorable moments, stashed within pockets, zipped, folded, hidden away, in the darkness of yesterday.

Where do planners go when they have outlived their purpose?

I’ll tell you a secret, they long to be used like good old work dogs and horses who find their every meaning in the task at hand. Relegate a planner to the closet, and you have just put a dog on a chain, a horse out to pasture. It’s what they live for…and you balk? Only those who do not understand will balk.

So, how does one love a planner? Or how does one explain this thing called “planner love”?

Imagine you have a friend, who is charming, loyal, willing to let bygones be bygones and most importantly let you be yourself and wait for it…happily prefers every moment to be All About You, unabashedly, completely and undeniably. Oh, and without distraction.

Your darling planner will not look at her phone to answer a text, hit like on Facebook, heart an Instagram image, or tweet the moments you share.

She will not willingly nor maliciously gossip about the moments you have confided in private.

She will not give you up for a last minute date with another.

She will not call you at 2 AM or not call you at all for months.

But, she is readily available for you at a moments notice.

Your Darling Planner is all about you…

and that’s why, my friends, those who love planners are all about them!

I took a lighthearted look at planner love this final week of our Planner Boot Camp endeavor. I am nothing if not completely, absolutely NOT serious but just love to laugh at myself and anyone else in the room about the way we humans can be so CRAZY at times in all of our humanness. ANyhoo…

Enjoy few planner quotes below to inspire your week of planning with purpose.

“Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.” Thomas Edison

“To be prepared is half the victory.” Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

“Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.” Peter F. Drucker

“No matter how carefully you plan your goals, they will never be more than pipe dreams unless you pursue them with gusto.” W. Clement Stone

Love your post…this sounds a bit like my journals…those waiting for pen to meet paper; and those that are completely filled!

    Thanks for sharing!

I am with Barbara…sounds like my journals but not so much my planners. I have sent more than my share to the closet.
