Twenty-four hours in a day is what we have in a day. You, me, and the 7.161 billion others who share the planet. Chances are if you are reading this blog you have internet access, a computer, electricity and the conveniences that a great number in the world are without including…a car. We live in an age of ease.  We’re not hunting for our food or seeking a water supply. We are a fairly comfortable people, aren’t we?

But, let’s remove the subjectivity shall we?

I will get right to the point. God is able to meet with us anywhere. We have access to Him as believers. Christians talk about abiding in Christ, yes? Boldly approaching the throne of grace, yes? Access right into the Holy of Holies. It’s rather a monumental thought.

Let me ask you this:

Do you drive?

Do you ever drive alone?

I want you who believe you are too busy to read your Bible, study the Word, pray, reflect , meditate, or have a Devotional Time (however you believe it should look) to answer the question:

Do. You. Drive?

I’m pretty comfortable to say you do.

You get into a car to get from point A to Point B. We’ll assume it was too early or you did not make time for a devotional or prayer beyond, “Lord, get me through today”.

Or maybe you are shuffling kids around from here to there, running errands, balancing a multitude of activities.

Now, stay with me. And understand as a driver who has done some pretty shameful things and been guilty of a multitude of driving sins, I am speaking not only as one who knows and understands…but as one who has been transformed by grace. As has been my driving. Trust me when I tell you, as one who drove into a house with my first car…my driving experiences have been a training ground for faith…for both myself and those around me. Hear me out.

Case in point: you drive. You get into a car and close the door.

Whether it is 15 minutes, or 60  minutes you are in an enclosed moving vehicle.

Do you talk on your cell phone, put the radio on to your favorite music station?

Do you focus on driving exclusively? I’m pretty sure you don’t. Your mind may go many places as you drive.

I wonder what our roads would be like if every driver got into their car and treated it as if they were entering a prayer closet?

How different would it be if instead of talking into our blue- tooths, or on our cell phones we used our commute to commune. ..with God?

How about instead of cursing the guy who cuts you off, praying for Him?

What would happen to Road Rage if Christians started employing Intercessory Prayer while driving? 

How much different could our travel be if our cars became confessionals, instead of conduits for anger?

What if we praised God, bringing Heaven to Earth with our words, instead of Hell’s fury behind the wheel?

How much safer might our roads be if those who are yielded to Christ, yielded to others while we drove instead of raising a fist or a finger?

What if regardless of focusing on our right of way while we drive we focused on The Way, and let it [Him] have it’s [His] way with us while we are on our way?

Could driving be a divine rather than a distressing endeavor?

What if getting from one place to another became a vehicle for you and Your God to connect?

Only you know what you do when you drive. Or when you drive alone.

You and your One passenger.

Now let me ask one more time, for those of you who say you have no time for God?

Do you drive?
