I have a tiny, illustrated book which sits in my office close by my desk. It is a book I cam across many years ago. If you asked me to show you my very favorite book – and know, I have many- it would take but a moment to retrieve it. It always is close at hand. I have loved this book so much that I have given it as a gift. I bought a beautiful edition called You Are Mine which was the sequel for my daughter before she was born. This loved edition is out of publication but if ou come across it anywhere in a used book store, you should buy it. It will be like a beautiful treasure to you.
It tells the story of a town of carved wooden people called Wemmicks. In this sweet redemptive tale of encouragement and wisdom for those who feel misunderstood, judged and criticized… and who does not need a wise encouraging word in these days of chaos, confusion and conflicted messages.
This little book is for children of all ages, of course. How stories have the power to convey deep theological truths, simply, beautifully and magically and touch children and adults alike perfectly, is evident in this small bound treasure.
I have shared this little gem but a few years ago I tried to find one and could not. I was told it was out of publication.

Every now and then there is a story that touches the hearts of all who hear it. A story that speaks to your soul and says, “This is true!”
This is one of those stories. It is about the Punchinello in each of us—the part of you that struggles to believe that someone treasures you. Someone who doesn’t judge you by what you look like, what you have, or what you do. Someone who loves you just because you are you.
It’s a vital message we all need to hear. A message we need to share with others: You are special, no matter what.
Well, I don't know how short it is, but I love The Return of the Prodigal Son. (Nouwen) It gave me so many insights into the story, and ones I had never heard about. Thank you for sharing your little treasure :)Peace in Christ,Ceil
