Asking a person who loves to write, draw, or doodle, “Who needs a new journal?” is like asking a chocolate lover if they’d like to try a new, decadent piece of chocolate. Of course, we need a new journal! Well, at least whichever one is in front of us! And maybe not needed, but there is always room for one more on the shelf. A journal in the hand, after all, is worth two on the shelf. I digress. The fact is, when you enjoy writing, doodling, sketching, and creating, you appreciate having a curated number of journals at the ready for when the muse comes knocking.
Today, I want to share an excellent journal, which is both luxurious and affordable- especially with the discounts and sales regularly offered. I am so enjoying my Ellington Fountain Pen, and I am happy to report that the fine team at Ellington Pens agreed to send me another beautiful pen and some journals for review. I promise to share my honest opinions and thoughts, and welcome any questions you have.
I hope you are enjoying the prompts for this month’s All the Love February journaling journey! Let’s talk about this latest journal I am about to explore with you.

The journals offered by Ellington Pens come in a variety of colors. I received the perfect color for February: Red. The Notebook I received what is described as a PU Saffiano Leather notebook, in a vibrant scarlet. The notebooks are available in ruled, dotted, and plain options for a variety of creative pursuits. This line of notebooks is A5-sized and measures at 145 × 210 mm (5.70 × 8.26 inches) for my precise journal measuring friends- we know who we are!
The paper is 100gsm and the page count is 80 sheets (160 pages). It is a light cream and is smooth, and has a nice feel. I’ve written with my Frixion Waai pen, as well as Mildliners, Pilot G2s, and both medium and fine point fountain pens, mostly to test the paper. I wanted to bring you a first look at these products in this special February collaboration. I plan to follow up with a filled journal soon, so stay tuned.

My first impression has to do with the cover or sleeve. The outer cover has a very high-end feel due to the Saffiano leather. It is notably textured with that subtle crosshatch pattern. I really love the look and feel. It looks elegant. Simple, but very elegant, and not too fancy. The picture below does not pick up on the pattern, so I have included some other images alongside mine from the EP website below. There is a squiggle (logo) on the front of the book and the Ellington Pens name and logo on the back.
The EP notebook features a pen loop, an elastic closure band, and a pocket on the back cover. All the features that many journal keepers appreciate.
Overall, I was impressed with both the presentation of the journal itself and the attention to detail. I also like that EP’s website often has sales, so you can generally catch a sale. I do also have a discount code (Dawn) if you decide to grab yourself (or a friend) a new journal, perhaps for Valentine’s Day?

One of the great combinations offered is a fountain pen and journal set together in a beautiful black gift box. There are many combinations of pen and notebook colors. Each comes with a fine tip fountain pen (which is not too fine, but a very nice write- I will share more in an upcoming post), and a complimentary colored journal. This is the same Saffiano outer sleeve, but the one I received included lined pages. The gift set comes beautifully packaged and includes an ink converter in the pen as well as three ink cartridges for the ink bottle-fainthearted (or unwilling). A perfect gift for a grad, loved one, or your favorite writer.
I will begin jumping into the EP Red Saffiano journal this weekend, after finishing my current journal, and share more of my feedback and thoughts on these products during February.
So, are you enjoying your current journal writing experience? DO you have a journal you are enjoying? How are you doing with your journaling practice this month?
