Welcome to today’s writing prompt for SUMMER JOURNAL 2025.

It’s 4th of July week in the USA, and here in my coastal Rhode Island life the vibe is Summer and the weekend looks hot! My hubby and I also happen to celebrate our wedding anniversary July 5th, so it’s always a special celebration no matter how we approach the holiday.

July 5, 2003- The Happy Couple

Regardless of where you live, I hope you approach the prompt with fresh eyes, let’s look and see…

My hubby and I were chatting earlier this week about what we wanted to fit into the upcoming week and weekend. As we did we were discussing my writing goals for the week, when he suggested a prompt for Summer Journal. Of course like any good wife I immediatly rejected his idea. Ha! Shut him down cold. But only to keep him on his toes. I thought in light of our anniversary, and his always willing to support his wife spirit, I’d offer up two prompts for your consideration. I don’t want to infringe on your beach, cookout or family time, but hope you enjoy the writing opportunity when you do get around to it!

  1. Choose your one word prompt OR choose the Merge. 2. Set your timer for 7 minutes. 3. Sit for no more than 30 seconds then begin! Write without stopping, editing, OR focusing on getting it exactly right. 4. If you need a nudge to start or at any point, write: when I think of the word… OR what do independence/freedom look like to me?

Angelo’s Prompt– Independence.

Dawn’s Prompt- Freedom.

The Merge- How do you see independence and freedom as complimentary? How would you contrast them? How could independence and freedom make a happy marriage? How could they ruin it? How does one influence or hinder the other? Are these ideas always complimentary? Contradictory? How? Keep exploring similarities, contrasts and everything in between.

Celebrating my 60th birthday last August in Cape Cod!

Happy writing and celebrating –

Enthusiastically, Dawn
