SJP7 Under the Stars

Welcome to  Day 6 of Summer Journal!

We have embarked on a journaling adventure- and it’s not too late to begin. We will write through 21 days of creative prompts to support your writing heart this Summer. If you are new to Enthusiastically, Dawn, you can learn more here: About Me. To find out what we are up to here for June and July, head over to this page: SUMMER JOURNAL 2025– this is where you can find all the details AND the previous posts/prompts.

Date your page, and write: Under the stars…

Option 1: Write about one experience you had that comes to mind when you think of the phrase, under the stars.

Option 2: Write about one specific memory you have – real or imagined- under the stars!

Option 3: Ekphrastic poem- yes you can write poetry. An Ekphrastic poem is a written reflection in poetic form of a piece of artwork. At least that’s how I see it! As an “accidental” art lover and poet, it is one of my favorite- and most challenging writing choices. I have had the opportunity to be part of multiple art and poetry collaborations and enjoy the fruit of these efforts. For more information, check out The Poetry Foundation’s definition and example>visit The Poetry Foundation. How to do it: Look at the piece of artwork, what emotions does it stir, what thoughts are evoked? Write whatever comes. If you have more time, but not always needful, you can check out the background of the artist and history of the artwork. Not always, but this depends on you. Where does the piece of art want to lead you? What does it reveal about the artist? Does the title lead you and where is it leading you? What is the piece saying to you? Go there…in your journal!

I am offering The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh as your art to respond to, but you are welcome to choose anything that prompts your imagination to try this writing experiment. Don’t force a poetic form, but if you get stuck try a bullet list of fragments that come to you. Then go from there!

I hope this wasn’t too much today. I get excited when I think about some of these topics, especially art and poetry, and the way our minds leap when the two are brought together!

Happy Journaling!

Enthusiastically, Dawn
