I Want To Fly Away

It’s National Poetry Month! As a poet (well words sort of tumble out of me and dance around in my head anyway) and a Journal Keeper, I offer you my first poem this month…in honor of all poets great and small.

I believe poetry is for the common folks, like me…not just the literary elite. Poetry is my go to medium for creativity, counsel, psychological well-being, clarity, focus and inspiration.

Writing poetry clears my head, gives me strength, encourages my enthusiasm, and keeps me sane.

I may be no Frost, Collins, or Plath but Poetry is my default.

I Want To Fly Away

I want to fly away

see God

alone

Gazing upward though

closed eyes

to the skies

Lids like shade

offer

peace

Arms like wings

trust

what is needed

will be provided…

I want to fly away.

Have a poetic day today, Friends. Stay alert- Poetry is EVERYWHERE.

Oh, and be sure to write a few lines yourself this month…you may never be the same!

  1. Poetry of, by and for the common people…yes!! A happy National Poetry Month to you too, Dawn! (I’m attempting NaPoWriMo…a poem a day)

  2. I love that! I used to write poetry. I still have it, tucked away somewhere. It’s terrible. (One of them is titled “Kitty Cat Poop and Bones.” Seriously. I would write about anything.)
