Mom walking the beach with her Bella girl! |
I am linking up this week for the 1000 moms Project at A Holy Experience.
I will be writing a few posts (Honoring Him Through Honoring Mom)
about motherhood, my mom and my relationship,
and hopefully some new insight from God about Him and his purpose
with regard to being a mother, daughter and follower of Him.
But let me just start by saying this: I did not have a traditional upbringing nor a traditional mom, but what I did have was God’s perfect choice for me.
You have no idea how BIG of a statement that is for me to make!
My mom and I have been through many ups and downs.
Our relationship sometimes is challenged from within and without BUT
God is faithful and I believe that Honoring my mom is honoring Him. I have been on a journey to learn how for many years. Progress has been slow. But I am grateful for my mom, God and His ways.
This is a far cry from the angry teenager who ran away at 15 years old, my friends.
God is nothing if He is not a Miraculous God. And. He. Is.
Rejoicing in Him, with thanksgiving for my mom, today.
Please scroll down and see the two poems I wrote as a young girl.

Now you see where I get the ROCK gathering trait from! It’s genetic! |

This is a picture of me about the time I wrote the two poems below. I thought it would give you a giggle. I was such a dweeb. Holding the Liberty Bell circa 1976. |

Just recently my Mom returned these to me to save. |

My Mom had a friend at work do the calligraphy and then they hung framed on the wall for many years. |
“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.
Ephesians 6:2-3
Mothers are not perfect, however they are chosen, handpicked by God. How we respond or fail to regardless of our circumstances reveals much about our relationship, trust and belief about Him.
I will be sharing and exploring this more in the upcoming posts.
May you be a blessing and be blessed as you seek Him in all things!
This is one of a couple of posts
I will be writing this week in recognition of Mother’s Day!
Dawn,You were blessed with such a great gift and talent even then. Reading these beautiful poems, knowing somewhat of your rebellious teen years, but getting to experience now how far God has brought you, gives me hope for my own daughter. Thanks for sharing these with us!Blessings,Pam

What a treasure for your mom (and for you!) I love that she honored the thoughts by having them done in such beautiful calligraphy.

So sweet. I love the rhyming in the 2nd poem, adorable! My mom-daughter relationship was a rocky one also, especially as an adult. So I am purposefully trying to bring up the good memories and feelings in my blog.I love this post, it is real and alive, that's so great!

Boy can I relate. My mom and I didn't have the greatest relationship when I was a teen. After I had my own girls, I soon realized that she did the best she could and life definitely could have been worse. She became my best friend before God called her home, and I'll always be grateful for that. New follower from http://agoddessofliterature.com

Great post. Mother's Day is really reaaly hard for me. After having to be in foster care for some of my mother's decisions, from running away and starting my own life at the age of 16. This is a really really hard day for me and sometimes I wish there wasn't a mother's day. Now that I have my own children, its a little different. I know that I need to grow when it comes to this and mature a little bit. I don't know if this day will ever be easy for me. Maybe it will one day. I'm sure thats all up to me and my choices though.
