Scripture Journal (RDJ Link-Up) 5/5/12

This journal I am sharing today is one that I started in the early days of my Christian walk, when the Word became alive to me. Although it is not my own words, it is filled with pages I love. I love to meditate on His Word and write and re-write Scripture. Some of the swirly word designs are so reflective of my mind in the sense that the Holy Spirit does call forth the Word and it swims through my mind, alive, active and powerful…useful. It also triggers songs that glorify God. This journal is so near and dear to my heart as I would sit and ponder as I wrote, read and contemplated. As you will see, 1 John was ministering strongly to me, as God did deep surgery on my newly converted heart. Actually God was using each of these verses to teach me…Hope you enjoy a peek into this “Scripture Journal”.

  1. WOW! I so love the creativity that goes into your journal writing! In our ministry school we had to forcefully encourage our students that it was OK and GOOD to draw during our meditation on scripture times. Such freedom to step out of the line upon line business. Ha!

  3. Dawn! i love this! I must say my journals are filled with lots of longhand on lines and plenty of typed pages of studies and teaching lessons. I have some pages that I did artistically like this – when on retreat, this is how I would mark my time. I have some pages from a retreat I did at a place in Mystic, Conn. – a hop, skip, and jump from you! Many years ago . . .I would love for us to consider doing a circle journal to this effect perhaps next year – as the Lord tarries – and I can share how it is planned and goes forth. We'd need 10 people to participate and a central organizer. We'd need to invite people by the end of October and everyone would start to prep their own journals in January – then, mail out to the next name on the list by the first of Feb. We'd all get our journals back by Thanksgiving to enjoy over the holidays. Perhaps we could each choose a different chapter, verse, or book of the Bible as our journal theme – then, everyone does a spread artistically representing an aspect of that theme. Use whatever media art/collage you'd like. I would love another circle journal for next year and had thought about starting one.   4. Seriously cool! I love the use of variously colored markers, which appeal to my artistic soul. I've often covered whole sheets with words–like the all the Names of God in scripture, promises, etc. but those are just doodles done while sitting at retreats, in church. Not in my journals. Hmmm. These RDJ are such great ways to open us to new ways of journaling.
