My fellow sister in Christ and Blogging, Jeanne Doyon, is sharing a series on fighting the chaos and treasuring the quiet moments this Holiday Season. I am there today as a guest and sharing some thoughts on Worship as well as two poems to help prepare your heart for Christmas.

I know you will be blessed by the series which features a number of wonderful writers.

Holidays-are-approaching

Just for Today (A Poem of Thanksgiving)

Today I offer a few words I wrote back in 2011 when I started blogging and sharing my thoughts online. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, going through…may these words be words that edify, and multiply thanksgivings in your soul.

Back in April, I attended a wonderful event hosted by the Association of Rhode Island Authors, at the Warwick Public Library here in Rhode Island. I, along with my friend (the fearless leader of my Writer’s Group) Linda, headed out to the Author’s Expo which featured over 35 local Ocean State authors. I conversed with many of the authors there, asked questions, gathered information and just enjoyed the day. To say I am completely in my element chatting with people of every persuasion is like saying dolphins are at home in the ocean. But in a room full of published authors? Oh, call me Flipper and film me! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this event, and had hoped to write something about it sooner. But, here it is September, and I am just getting to sharing the goodness; such is my life lately.

I picked up the phone to make the call shortly before Christmas about a year and a half ago. I left a message and waited to hear back from the Instructor who I would come to know as Linda eventually. It seemed like forever before I received the call back, and I wondered why should I bother? I was happily blogging away on my blog, contributing monthly along with a team of writers to a site dedicated to my genre, enjoying online writing communities AND contentedly discontent with my writing. My muse was getting a bit stir crazy, but other than that writing life seemed good.

Finally the return call came, although it was almost a whole month later and I had forgotten I had even desired to stretch myself out of my little writing cave. My muse and I looked at each other quizzically, meh…would we, should we, venture out of our comfort zone?

This has been on my heart for some time. I am weighed down by the continual need of you, who feel the need to address me, and every single person within range of a news-feed.

I’m tired of the nonstop barrage of opinions that are focused on making a plea to shame some, sway some and generally state one’s personal opinion in hopes of gaining approval, attention and maybe redemption.
