I am not sure who is journaling along with these prompts this Summer. So maybe, just maybe you could chime in in the comments and let me know if you have responded to any of them or if they just have not been your cup of tea? Meanwhile, for those who may be journaling along, even occasionally, the prompt has arrived, late, it is, yet also right on time! I am sorry for being tardy.
My hubby asked when we returned from our beach outing (that’s us in the picture above at East Matunuck State Beach), “Did you write the Journal Prompt for your readers?“
DOH! Nope. And thus today’s prompt was born. You are invited to join in as you feel led!
Today is Saturday, this post was due Thursday. What happened? Summer. Summer happened. Is Summer a good excuse? Maybe that is the question, or maybe it’s not. Either way I am taking advantage of this serendipitous occasion as I squeeze a prompt between these fleeting Summer days. I am forgoing the prompt I was to share for these that I have been pondering instead. Pick one and respond.
Option 1: Excuses.
What is the best excuse (story?) you ever heard from someone for something they didn’t do, were late with, or had forgotten completely? What was their reason/why? How did you respond to the excuse?
OR write about how you do when you are in the position of having to explain why you did something wrong, late or forgot about. How do you handle mistakes when you make them? How do you deal with others’ mistakes?
Option 2: Distractions.
What are the things that cause you most often to get sidetracked? What, where, and how does this impact your life? You? Others?
Or
Write about a time you got sidetracked and it was a blessing. Alternatively, write a list of Pros and Cons of being distracted or argue for an undistracted life and sell yourself on it. Pitch that sale to a friend and see what they have to say in response.
OR
Write about your very favorite distraction!
Option 3: Busy-ness.
Sometimes busy-ness is a blessing. Sometimes it is a curse. Or a part of The Curse! How is being busy both a blessing and a burden? How can you find balance? Is balance even possible or worth seeking?
Respond to these journal stems:
When I get too busy…
One way I attempt to find balance during busy seasons is…
The best way to live a balanced life is to…
The fast-track to overwhelm for me comes when…
One thing I can plan to do this week to stay balanced…
A balanced life to me consists of/allows for…
Option 4: Better late than never! Respond to that saying however your pen leads!
If you are new head over here to the page called SUMMER JOURNAL 2025 where all our Summer journaling prompts are gathered in one place.
I’ll leave you with one last picture. My favorite distraction- a good read, on the beach! This one is by local author Greg McLaughlin– I finally got around to reading it — and in good Rhode Island form—while I was at East Matunuck beach!

Happy Journaling- Happy Summer!
Enthusiastically, Dawn
