SJP1 First Days

Welcome to Summer Journal!

The session begins now. I’ll be leading you through 21 days of creative prompts over the next two months. New to me? Head here: Who I am. If you need more info about this writing adventure, head over to the Summer Journal PAGE. THANKS for coming!

Let’s begin…

Prompt 1: First Days

I welcome you to your first day of Summer Journal, and like the first day of school, or any class you can remember, it’s usually low key. Easy, peasy. Show up, check in, get your assignments. No stress. You get a sense of the teacher, and anticipate the upcoming expectations.

So your prompt today, will be easy as, well…a Summer’s day.

Grab your journal and find a comfy place to write, whether outside or inside is fine, but let it be a place that allows you to ponder quietly without interruption.

Option One: What are your expectations for Summer? What do you hope to fit into the short season? Who do you want to be part of the landscape? What do you hope to learn? What would you like to leave behind, by Summer’s end?

In Your Journal-Write out your answers, or make a list. Or create a simple collage. Or doodle, draw or sketch what you envision for your best days during Summer. Remember there is no wrong way to journal.

Option Two: Springboard off ONE of the following beginnings, whatever comes and keep writing. Whichever makes your mind jump to respond.

This Summer I am determined to…

The one thing I won’t be doing this Summer…

I am looking forward to this one thing more than anything else this Summer…

I hope this wasn’t too long! I’ll do my best to keep them short- but once I start, I do get carried away, ha! Remember, keep yourself writing, don’t worry about perfect penmanship or spelling (to the degree you can). Just write like no one is looking over your shoulder. AND, a sentence, a paragraph, whatever comes, is good enough. Use a timer if you like, but otherwise, it’s a no timer, clocks or phones writing rhythm we are looking to find.

See you next time,

Enthusiastically, Dawn
