Dear husband of my forever years
here on God’s good earth,

what have I done to deserve such grace
expressed through the life of one man?

Who should receive my praise?
Who should I thank for the good I see-
in you?

Despite the days we’ve shared despair,
despite the dark clouds threatening,
despite the devil’s tactics to thwart

the beautiful thing
the Lord has done in us

not perfect-
but, in Him.

Not without moments of impatience,
frustration and battles between wills-

but always the laying down of arms
in the end- a willful surrendering and
hearts bowed to the One

who ties us with His everlasting cords
of righteousness and grace, love –
the precious gifts given us.

May my words be a blessing wherever they land!
