It’s interesting how much of living has to do with food. Food nourishes and sustains life. It also can enhance life, and people die for lack of it. Food is a powerful componant of our existance. We need it, we enjoy it, we can’t live without it. Sometimes it can cause struggles within a person’s psyche, or within a nation’s economy. Let’s think and write or write and think.

Many years ago I took a Nutrition and Food Science Class as part of my required studies. It was taught by four different professors – each departments heads in their area: pschology, physiology, social work/science, and nutrition. This was all to help us understand the dynamics and influences that each aspect played in our thoughts and choices with regard to food and health. I think this was one of those rare and serendipitous life occurances in that I learned a lot, and it stayed with me as I began to work in the field of fitness, coaching others. It gave me great insight in understanding the unseen challenges and obstacles we all face when trying to make even small life changes. Although at the time, I grumbled at the amount of work required to complete this class, it’s impact was personally and proffessionally profound. Simply stated it clarified for me the fact that though it is easy to judge by outward circumstances, or what we see in a moment. It is impossible to clearly comprehend all the influences at play that impact an individual’s current status in life (or a community, nation) …or all the moments that brought them to this one. It challenged my preconceived ideas about people and food and to be very careful not to be hasty in making coinclusions without the facts. I think there are a lot of spiritual analogies in the lessons I learned which went well beyond the classroom.

For the Brethren:

Respond to the below verse by meditating on the below passage before you set the timer! (see Matthew 6: 25-34 for more). Journal your answer in a prayer to Jesus. He is asking: Are you not valued more than the birds, by our Father in Heaven?

Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? (CSB)

I think that’s all for now- Happy Journaing!

Enthusiatically, Dawn
