Eat Cake! (Day 7)
I was blessed with two cakes from two very good friends for my 60th birthday in August this year…my new hip and I are still working off the cakes! Hahaha!

Your mission today if you choose to accept it, will be a delicious adventure in writing. How far you take it is completely up to you. However for an optimal writing experience, I believe you will know exactly what you need to do.

Prompt 7 – Eat Cake!

This is a great prompt for you – it’s Rated G for all audiences. So if you have any young writers you want to inspire, such as a son or daughter, grands, nieces/nephews, babysitting kiddos, let’s face it, the topic itself should help motivate the most resistant to give it a try – break out some cake and write- together! Lots of ways to eat this prompt, so take a bite, a slice, a lick of the frosted fingers and let’s dig in.

  1. Cake Memories- Remember a cake you made or bought for someone else. What made it special, unique, memorable. Describe in detail all you can remember.
  2. Easy Peasy Recipe Writing- Copy a favorite cake recipe in your best handwriting. Write about why it’s your favorite cake recipe and how it became so.
  3. Cakes List- Can you list every birthday cake you ever had? I double-chocolate frosting dare you to try! Fill in the more details AFTER you make your initial list. Alternately for Parents- can you recall every cake you had for your kiddos?
  4. The Standout- This may be similar to but this one is to write about a cake you received, the event which inspired it and of course a description of the cake. Then write about the person behind the cake.
  5. Write about the best cake slice you ever had- where you had it, and why you were eating cake. What else do you remember. Try to capture the details of the moment in time.
  6. Ever had bad cake? Is it possible? Write about it. The worst cake I ever had…
  7. Write a random cake memory- anything that (cake)pops into your head.
  8. Pre-made cakes, quick-cakes, kids’ snack cakes, homemade cake treats and other cake memories stirring around in your memory archive. Choose one! If you are feeling creative, go ahead and find an image of your chosen writing focus and print it out for your journal- I have Stir n Frost memories from my early teen years!

Some fun quotes to nibble on, and quibble over:

“A party without cake is just a meeting.” – Julia Child

“The most dangerous food is wedding cake.” – James Thurber

“A compromise is the art of dividing a cake in such a way that everyone believes he has the biggest piece.” – Ludwig Erhard

Alternately some sweet starts, if you like:

The last time I ate cake…

When I hear the quote “Let them eat cake”

The next cake I’m having…

Well, I believe that’s a wrap for today and of Week 1! Happy Journaling!

Enthusiastically, Dawn
