I’ve loved a lot of books in my life, and there are many books, I want to read but have not yet made the time. Today’s prompt is a book lover’s challenge, a test, a chance to look at the diamond from more than one angle. Or, in this case, NOT to judge the book by the cover. So, before you begin, let’s remember to prepare our journaling space, and settle in. True confession, last night I wrote on our Day 1 prompt in bed, before turning out the light. That is not the norm for me, but it was surprisingly satisfying. So, the most important thing you need for this journey, is your journal, pen and the will to write!

Prompt 3: What Book Matters Most To You? Why?
This prompt may have you naming, and answering quickly. I would advise against that, and instead ask you to linger with it a bit longer. Go deeper. So for this particular prompt I would like to suggest you write for 5 minutes to the prompt and then stop. If that is all the time you have then in your schedule today, good job. If you can take a bit more time then reset the timer for 5 minutes and write again to any of the additional prompts below:
–If you chose the Bible, I would ask you to go further and choose which book of the 66 books (73 if you’re Catholic) helped you to more clearly see God- most recently?
-Which book of the Bible, or character helped you see yourself more clearly as a human being, as part of the best and worst of humanity, instead of us vs. them or the best of me vs. the worst I see in others?
If you have a favorite Bible book or story , write about why it is so.
If you have a verse, journal about how it came to be part of God’s story in you.
Have you ever paraphrased a passage? Try it in your journal?
For all other books, try this:
If you own the book, take one of your favorite parts, stanzas, quotes etc. and copy it into your journal. After you do this, respond to the piece as you would with any other springboard quote.
>What resonates from this passage for you? Why?
>If you were introduced to the author of this book/quote what would you like to say to them or ask them about it?
>Imagine a dialogue with the author, write it out.
OR
>What book (or books) matter least to you? Why?
>Write about a genre of books you formerly disliked but have discovered you like now.
>Write about a memory you have with a book you loved as a child?
>Write about a time (times) you read to a child/children (your own or otherwise) that mattered.
Oh one more thing, feel free to take these prompts and turn them any which way. Mix, match, merge! There’s no wrong way to journal…only not journaling at all! Just enjoy the journey!

Happy Journaling!
Enthusiastically, Dawn

Awww! Thank you! Sorry about that! 🥲 Those blog permission things are annoying! I’m not sure how to fix it. ♥️

I have written quite a bit about one particular book that I have loved throughout the decades which of course was the first book that popped into my head. However, I loved your advice about letting the Prompt sit and not automatically answering quickly. As I’m sitting pondering that advice I thought of another book that might be a better choice to write about with this prompt. As always, great food for thought on this one.
