A Look at The New Testament for Everyone

Here it is December. The perfect time for a Bible review, perhaps even a fresh translation for your consideration?

I have been reading through The New Testament for Everyone: A Fresh Translation by N.T. Wright and I will share my impressions about the hardcover edition sent to me through the Bible Gateway Blogger Grid Program.

As I look over this hardcover copy of the New Testament, with its attractive Navy Blue background and beautiful sunrise landscape, I feel it evokes in the reader a welcoming invitation. I am sure this is no mistake. The title itself boldly states it is for everyone. Surely the whole point of New Testament is God radically, and boldly revealing this profound truth. He has made a way for everyone to come to Him. I do digress, because it’s always good news and still amazes me!

N.T. Wright, a British scholar and theologian has a long history of teaching and is a prolific writer who brings a very frank and conversational tone to the text.

Each of the Books begins with an introduction, and the text is single-column, with a generous 11 point font. The chapter designations and each section title are a stone-blue color. The layout lends itself perfectly to reading, more than study. This is the kind of book you curl up with and ponder.

The maps which are featured, especially in Acts, are extensive covering Paul’s journeys. There is a glossary in the back for terms, especially helpful for someone new to Bible reading or unfamiliar with some of the cultural and biblical references. Some of the physical details of the book details for the hardcover are 544 pages, weight: 1.38 pounds (it feels light in the hands, comfortable in size), and lastly, the dimensions: ‎ 6.56 x 0.88 x 9.7 inches. Not something to take to church but definitely a perfect choice for the coffee shop or park! Also a great gift for someone who might be new to reading the Bible.

If you want a fresh look at the New Testament, and are open to translations I think this would be an enjoyable read. Also a nice Christmas or Easter Gift. It might be nice to use within a group and discuss it as you go. After all, where the Spirit of the Lord is there can be unity and freedom, even if we don’t always agree, wisdom keeps the doors open for dialogue. Amen?

Please let me know any questions you have about this edition of The New Testament for Everyone, and I will do my best to answer. I will be continuing to read this version for a bit throughout the Christmas season, so please don’t hesitate to ask!

Wishing you and yours a beautiful holiday season and may the peace of our Savior carry you through to a blessed new year!
