This morning I finally sat to work on a poem I wrote for inclusion in a local anthology. As I looked at the piece, I began to change, add, remove, re-read and reconsider my words. I had already done this at least twice if not three times prior, but today, finally, I reworked the opening portion to my satisfaction. After I sent it off, I reread it and found a grammatical error, and a questionable line placement that seemed fine, until another look.

What The Rose Knows

One year ago today I wrote about the lesson I learned from the beautiful peach rose at the end of our walkway. Today, the post, which I shared on my blog, showed up in my Facebook feed and I read my own words from exactly one year ago. Ironically, I had just come in from walking the dog, and it is a beautiful Fall day with afternoon chirping crickets…It’s like Deja Vu.

I hope you won’t mind, I edited the post down a bit, but I wanted to share the message, modified and magically new.I pulled from the original what was significant to me today.

If you have written for any length of time at all, you start to see some themes that continuously re-surface. I pray that the essence of the writing speaks to your heart…

Three Years – A Spontaneous Poetry Reading

This morning I was compelled to write this poem after a friend’s comment about mortality. I am one who contemplates mortality regularly, as well as a plethora of other human dilemmas; but today the words came, as they sometimes do, and I yielded to their arrival capturing their essence on paper, then freeing them with my voice.
