Your Destiny Is Not In Things

This Sunday there was a message our Pastor taught on the scripture passage from Luke (12:13-21) and it was absolutely a needed one for me… It is something God has been trying to work into my soul for awhile now. It’s a passage that is so easy to see and say- oh, that’s not me. Or, this YUCK in me is no big deal, or I’m not as bad as ______________________ (add your own prideful nonsense). But the truth is I have known the ugly truth about myself for awhile. I know that there’s still a lot more yuck in me than meets the eye, and I am grateful that God (and some people) see beyond it- BUT I am also grateful for a God who says, “ENOUGH! You need to rely on me more with this YUCK in you if you want to move on”.  I really want to say with confidence, I get this…I know this and I do…but the working out in these deeply profound truths in our lives is…well, it’s freakin’ painful and hard! Therefore by His grace I go…with that old limp as a reminder… More

…we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin that distracts us. We must run the race that lies ahead of us and never give up. Hebrews 12:1

Good Morning, Friends. Do you recall on my last post I mentioned I’d written two poems that morning? Well here is the second, based on my meditation and reflection of the readings in Hebrews. A lot really stood out to me, and as you know, every time we read scripture new insights are revealed. This is why we never grow weary reading the same books. If we approach the Word of the Living God with expectation, humility and sincerity, we will hear new things.  I know this is true for me. I pray it is for you too. Our God is an infinite wellspring of inspiration.

Great is His faithfulness!

Have We Forgotten?

Today I watched livestream coverage of the 9/11 Tribute from New York City. My heart aches new each year in light of the historical aftermath of the tragic events that unfolded on this date fourteen years ago. What is in my heart, and on my mind in light of all, is better expressed for me in my default writing mode: poetry.

So today, I offer my words as a tribute for those who have lost loved ones, who still ache daily, and for us all in this Great Country…may these words bring hope, healing, encouragement or a sobering reminder if need be. May these offerings be accepted, and acceptable to you who read them today.

May God continue to bless us, because none of us are worthy, yet we all, with open hands, receive His grace.

Imagine you could choose one time in history to spend with God for one day (24 hours). It’s kind of like God your Father taking you, His kid, to work for the day. Where would you be in the continuum of time? What would you see and do? Are you with Him for Creation? Walking with Him and Adam in the Garden?  Are you the desert with Him and the Israelites? Or in the Chariot carrying Elijah? Do you hover with Him over the manger, or weep with Him at Gethsemane? What would you ask Him? What do you notice? What do you see?
