Onward Christian Soldier (#LentChallenge Concluding Thoughts)

Here it is almost the end of April and I am just getting around to sharing a few thoughts on my latest journey which concluded Easter Sunday. Sort of (more on that in a second). I guess what I mean to say is, I am on a never-ending journey as a Christian. But, I have to say the #LentChallenge  I participated in was a wonderful tool in resetting my eyes towards the One whose eyes are ever upon me.

My One Word for 2015 is Redeemed.

Let those who have been redeemed by the LORD declare it— those whom he redeemed from the power of the enemy,” Psalm 107:2

May those redeemed shout it from the rooftops!

This blog is my rooftop.

Grace Upon Grace (#LentChallenge)

WP_20150324_08_18_14_Pro

I have been on a Gospel Journey this Lent season. Forty days of reading through the four Gospels along with a bunch of fellow sojourners with Margaret Feinberg’s #LentChallenge and today I read the first two chapters of John. The Gospel of John happens to be my very favorite of the four. I was weeping at chapter one. Broken, cracked open, spilled by the words on that page this morning. I can’t ever read the words that begin Chapter one without awestruck wonder:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-3

These words send me in this time warp journey back to Genesis, and leave me breathless. It’s as if everything from Genesis to Revelation sits within this passage. It really wrecks me…brings me to my knees. I am caught up in this grace, friends. Caught up in this amazing journey of grace upon grace. I hope you are too. This morning I was inspired to write a little poem. I hope it blesses you BIG.

Because this God I know, He takes no prisoners- but is Freedom and Truth- and I am amazed at His grace anew every morning! Don’t settle for religion. Get to know the One who came to set the captives free.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:9-13

Here is my poetic offering…

Salt or Salt-Free (@5MFF)

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? Luke 1:34

Most health conscious adults today acknowledge that excessive salt in the diet is not optimal for good health. As a matter of fact too much salt in the diet increases health related risks and in the extreme can be associated with life threatening conditions. Some health conditions require minimal salt intake with the aim of a “salt-free” diet.

Jesus really did have a lot to say about Salt for believers, and it wasn’t for dietary reasons.

Would you join me at 5 Minutes for Faith today where I share additional thoughts from my Gospel reading for the #LentChallenge I have been enjoying.

Hanging on His Words

WP_20150320_07_43_53_Pro

Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words. Luke 19:47-48

As I continue this week with the Margaret Feinberg’s #LentChallenge, reading the Gospel of Luke and closing in on the final week of Jesus’ life on earth for the third time, I find myself feeling a soul restlessness that is not unfamiliar. Winter has been exceedingly long, even for this Snow Lover. I want to shake off the cold and remember what Spring is like…I can’t recall. I headed to walk along the Ocean road this morning, the first day of Spring and was met with cold so intense my fingers were frostbitten! I think Spring has forgotten she needs to wake up.
