Why Do You Write?

This past Summer I was invited  along with a few others to sit on a Local Authors’ Panel at the library and share a few words. The irony was not wasted on me. It has always been a struggle for me to  speak in public. Which is a double irony since I seemed to be comfortable shouting out orders like a Marine Sergeant to thirty or more people, or get on stage in a bikini, posing for hundreds.

Why then, would I be uncomfortable terrified of speaking or more specifically, reading my written words in public?

Grace for All Seasons (End of Summer Reflections)

Narragansett Town Beach - as it looked on the morning of September 1, 2015 - beautiful in every season!

Narragansett Town Beach – as it looked on the morning of September 1, 2015 – beautiful in every season!

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5

Here we are, friends. Day Two, September. Seasonal change is upon us once more, and as sure as the tides ebb and flow each day, we are all adjusting our rutters as we ready ourselves for the days ahead. Can’t you just feel the change in the air? Though the Summer temperatures linger a bit, and we will enjoy them as they are given, the thrust to batten down the hatches and head out full speed ahead into the final four months of 2015 is a palpable energy. The return of routines, activities and  increased momentum will continue to challenge each one of us to order our days with careful consideration in light of the season we are in, and the seasons we’ve yet to know.

So many wonderful things vie for our attention, don’t they? So many opinions, opportunities, possibilities. But, the question remains. What is calling you from the quietness of your being now? What season are YOU in? Forget that Fall is slowly preparing for its debut, and I saw two leaves fall, whimsically before me,  as I drove toward the beach this morning. More

Facing Our Fears With Faith (5 Minutes for Faith)

 Ode to October
Sweet October, how I adore thee, with orange themed decor, hot cider and more, pumpkins galore, goblins at my door, and the leaves twirling down from the trees. Sweet October, I adore thee.

Oh, October! How I abhor you, with your trick or treat and “smell my feet”, goblins and fears, increased nightmares, endless sweets and scares, such a mixed brew, of what will we do. Oh, October, I  abhor you.
Well it is the season of scary, but there’s no need to be a “Scaredy Cat”, is there?

My Sweet Girl (5 Minute Friday-Cherished)

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways…
Psalm 91:11
I dropped you off today. A new fresh start for you. Mid year and I can’t help but wonder how it will all turn out. My sweet girl, I left you alone with a thousand strangers today and I am clinging to the hope that God hears this mother’s prayers. That you would find favor with those you don’t know yet, and who don’t know you. That grace would find you at this new school, in this new place. I told God this morning that I would turn my “concerns” to prayers and not worries. But it’s only 9:20 Am and 2:35 PM seems like an eternity. How will I get through wondering how you are getting through? But this I wish you knew right now, wish I could whisper it right into your day…am now whispering. My sweet girl you are cherished, you are loved. You are precious in His sight.  And He is with you…and I have prayed his angels escort you on this day and a million interventions are drifting heavenward.
 You hem me in–behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Psalm 139:5

Under His Umbrella {Faith Life Preservers- Day 17}

Today, dear friends, cling to this truth:
You are under the umbrella of His
all consuming, faithful love.

Our security is not in the things of this world, which are temporary.
Our security is not in the hands of our next leader,
but in the hands of the Creator of every tribe, nation, tongue-
The One True Living God.
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The One who is and was and is to come.

So today our Faith Life Preserver is found in the power
 of His Word and the promise of His Presence.

For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
 it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
 joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes
 of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:12

“This is what the LORD says–Israel’s King and Redeemer,
the LORD Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last;
apart from me there is no God.
Isaiah 44:6

 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen?
It is God who justifies.
Who is he that condemns?
Christ Jesus, who died—
more than that,
who was raised to life
is at the right hand of God
and is also interceding for us.
 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble
or hardship
or persecution
or famine
or nakedness
or danger
or sword?
As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him who loved us.
For I am convinced
that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present
nor the future,
nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us
from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:33-39
 My sheep listen to my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish;
 no one can snatch them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me,
is greater than all;
 no one can snatch them
out of my Father’s hand.
I and the Father are one.
John 10:27-30

Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God;
trust also in me.
John 14:1

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God,
“who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone,
O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8
