When the Real Happy New Year Begins

I noticed someone had mentioned on my  Instagram yesterday that February was the start of the New Year for her. After the January 2016 I have experienced thus far this seems like a fabulous idea. However after further consideration while driving home from dropping off my 15 year old daughter at school, the mind of Christ in me spoke up.

Does anyone get those BIG epiphanies while driving, showering, in the middle of a conversation? It’s as if God taps you on the shoulder and says, “Ahem” in that gentlemanly way He has perfected. I find He never plows me over, but the magnitude of His revelations often do.

So as I drove the short ride that the school is from our little home, I felt my mind, heart and soul light up with truth. I think my car was glowing!

When Your Days Feel Unspiritual- Turn Left

 WP_20150522_07_58_06_Pro (1)

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5 :23-24

Friday morning, after dropping my daughter off, I turned left instead of right as I pulled out of the High School parking lot. I don’t always. Often I surrender myself to the daily routines that define my life presently. Every once in a while my routine gets interrupted by…life. But hey, I strive to keep a steady pace and confess the need for the security of knowing there are things that need to be done and the fact that I need to do them. The drumbeat of life beats on.

But, another week has passed and Spring is caressing my cheeks through the open car window, so I do the best thing I can in the beauty of this particular  morning. Before heading back into another day, I turn left.

I Will… (My To Do List for Spring)

WP_20150413_09_07_13_Pro

This morning I am blessed hearing the birds chirping outside my window. The winter months have been hard on the birds, wildlife and all of us here in the East. But, Spring is finally emerging, shaking off her sleepiness and shining on us. I wrote this list one morning a couple of weeks ago as I sat with my planner, Bible and journal. I think I was feeling overwhelmed, behind and cluttered in every way. I shared a picture the list of my little reminders to myself on Social Media and received so many positive comments I thought I’d share it here on the blog.

May the words inspire you to make your own list of  affirming reminders for days you feel overwhelmed.

A Week’s Worth of Jesus?

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

I am on a journey through the Gospels this Lent Season via Margaret Feinberg’s Lent Challenge. 4 Gospels, 40 days, and here I am wrapping up week 1 and feeling more in love with my Savior than ever before.

See, reading the Bible is not burdensome. But, being a Christian who makes no time for Jesus makes no sense at all to me. You want to feel burdened as a Believer? Ignore God’s Word, don’t pray and tell yourself you are too busy carrying your burdens to spend time with God.

Of course Jesus offers to carry those burdens, but you go just ahead and trudge along carrying them yourself. Friend, that is just foolishness!

If you want to carry your burdens, be my guest but don’t blame God when you’re weary from it.

The thing is we are all busy. We all have the same amount of time in a day. We all have to choose how we will slice up that day according to our priorities. And the bottom line is we get off track. We do. I do and you do. Unless of course you’re a Pharisee….

That’s a whole other blog post.

Take Courage

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

These past few weeks have been a blur. Some days I  am not sure whether it’s Monday or Thursday. The clock has lost significance and breathing at times feels laborious. As if breathing is one more thing on the list of things to do…yet, it is a constant reminder that there are some things I am grateful are not dependent on me. My life, my very breath is in hands that are more capable and faithful than mine.

This is a reassuring reality when circumstances spill you out on the highway like a misplaced deer.
