How To Celebrate Your Birthday Every Day and a Giveaway!

I’m sitting here at my desk on the eve before my 52nd birthday listening  to the crickets as they chirp, chirp, chirp…the hum of cars occasionally overriding their Summer symphony. I’m struggling for words as I sit here and hope to somehow encapsulate in a blog post my honest to God thoughts about the title I have chosen. I feel like a foreigner, in my own office tonight. Every routine I held dear in the past has been tossed into an irretrievable folder and filed in the archives of my personal history. This year: 2016…the year I  felt led to the word “Revelation“…and am still trying to find answers to questions that are yet to be revealed. More

How to Celebrate Turning 50 (and a present for YOU!)

I have thought about turning 50 since about the age of 46, when my then nine, about to turn ten, year old daughter came home from school and gleefully proclaimed her latest epiphany. Her teacher had informed her that she was about to hit a milestone. That milestone would become mine as well. What grand news was my daughter excited to share with me on that fateful day? The fact that (as her blessed teacher had told her) she would be a decade old.

My Life in 60 Seconds {The Return of Monday Posts}

Well it has been quite a month!
Hang on to your hat and I will catch you up.
Sorry, but it will be more than a minute.
Go grab yourself a coffee, I have so much I want to share with you-
 Go, hurry up. Come on!
How about a ten minute chat  strong, long cup of conversation?
I’ll start…

Although I have been linking up to most of my regular places, during the month of October there were times I was unable to make all my usual rounds with the 31 Day Challenge hosted by The Nester over at
The Nesting Place. Pop on by if you missed it for some great reading.
I do not know what possessed me to do it as I honestly was considering stepping back from blogging a bit to work on other writing projects BUT I ended up with this crazy idea of 31 Days of Faith Life Preservers…and wala! I was in.

My sweet baby turned 12
on the 9th!

Seriously, her Dad made this sweet party cake for her and her friends
for the birthday celebration!
She had a surprise mini cake delivered from our lovely Pastor’s wife
and also a (Dadmade) Cherry Cheescake on the 9th. We are caked out!

The Pumpkin from start to finish!

Of course hubs roasted these and we ate them all up!

He is pretty amazing.

The last week of October blew me away,
seriously. The Hurricane blew in, blew a tree down in our front yard, took our power for a few days and then left us a heap of mess to clean up. I took pictures of the storm but they came out terrible.
I know full well how lucky I am.
How minimal in actuality the inconvenience and damage that we experienced.
So many are still dealing with the aftermath.
Praying for New Jersey, New York and also the devastated areas of coastline in my own area.
It seems so incredibly fast paced to me.
Sandy came through like a freight train and people just want life to return to normal.
But some things will take time…as well as prayers and hands to help when possible.
We squeezed in Halloween and still the Book Fair at school.
Some families still did not have power throughout the week, including the poor teachers.
But God has dealt mercifully with us.
My heart goes out for those who have more loss and damage.
These rocks on the sidewalk as well as the torn up parking lot
are remnants of Hurricane Sandy
Many hands make the work light…
Church team work and community action!
This Sunday our church joined in the town efforts to clean up the debris that overflowed from ocean to the nearby lake property. Sadly the fresh water lake was overtaken by the saltwater of the sea and much of the animal life has been negatively impacted. Fresh water and saltwater fish who cannot survive in the opposite water environment were left dead. So many things I did not even think about which are impacted by the storm.

I also wanted to share with you all a really cool ebook
I won (I love to win stuff) on a twitter party this weekend for the books release party!
You might very well be interested in it too!

I loved the video below and was really excited to win a copy.

“There is no way to be a perfect mother,
and a million ways to be a good one”
Jill Churchill
Today is my beautiful daughter’s 12th Birthday.
The day I gave birth to her is the day I realized that 10 tiny fingers and toes
are really the most amazing thing God created.
I never realized how much I could love one person.
How much I would sacrifice for another.
The day she was born was the day that I knew my journey
to true unselfishness would begin.
It started in the womb, but will be a lifetime of learning.
Flesh dies hard after all, and I am one who has clung to this world
and it’s remnants too often.
I know selfishness.
I am learning selflessness, and it’s beauty and freedom.
It’s pain.
Dying to self is what a mother does day in and day out.
It is a paradigm shift of epic proportions.
Do not be deceived.
There is a balance of power indeed,
but sacrificial love is the first requirement needed for long nights of sleeplessness.
First as the infant cries for milk, then for attention and boundaries unwanted.
Again in the older years while waiting on curfews.
Finally to endure the awkward but necessary years identity seeking.
Sleeplessness is a Mother’s silent partner and secret strength.
I refuse to bow down to the idol of worry.
Oh, my Lord knows- that is not easy.
Instead I bow my heart in prayer.
Turning every thought, concern and worry into
holy incense, prayers rising up to Him.
I embrace sleeplessness as an opportunity for fellowship and time
of strengthening in His grace for the days ahead.

My precious daughter, a Faith Life Preserver

Love begins by taking care of the closest ones –
 the ones at home.

“Grown don’t mean nothing to a mother.
A child is a child. They get bigger,
older, but grown.
In my heart it don’t mean a thing.”
— Toni Morrison

I just could not get this sweet, silly song out of my head today!
So I have included the clip “You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby”.

Stop The Insanity, It’s Monday!

You know things are chaotic when your calendar is upside down!
Seriously, that was my desk recently. It’s not better, yet. But I am working on it. It seems when I try to get organized or clean, I tend to make a mess. It just works that way. I kinda ‘splode. Everywhere. Sometimes I find my way back to sanity. Other times I just close the door. Did you ever just wish that one of those Home Improvement Extreme Makeover Shows would knock on your door and say “Poof”, and all of the clutter  would be gone? Friends, that horrifies me, all my ideas are in that mess!
Last week my life felt full.
I just raised my hands and face to Heaven, receiving graciously.
Every single gift as it was poured out, like oil, spilling over my head.
Running down my cheeks.
I felt no shame, as I licked my lips, smiling.
Thank you, Lord.
Thank you.
One year older.
One year more blessed.
One year wiser.
Tomatoes and Basil from our garden.
Thank you, Lord.
Peaches (gently tossed with a touch of lime and sugar)
served in Martini glasses with fresh Mint
(from our garden)
Thank you, Lord.

My sweet Moms In Prayer friends from New Hampshire.
I love these ladies and am loved by them
Thank you, Jesus!
Thank you Starbucks-
I look forward to my free drink each year!

So I took it here and had myself a fabulous morning.

 I brought a Good Book!
My Girl gave me a wonderful pedicure
and my Amazon book order had just arrived!
Talk about divine timing. I finally got my hands on
The Jesus Storybook Bible
and because of this combination enjoyed the pampering
of my feet from the soles
right to the soul!

but be warned- he feels that the person who wrote this recipe,
perhaps is not familiar with recipe writing or something to that degree.
It was delicious but I felt I should give you fair warning if you want to try it!

281. Sisters in Christ who pray faithfully for me
282. A husband who never ceases to amaze me
283. My sweet friend and SIC Pauline who spoke this beautiful truth:
“Fellowship IS worship”
284. The daily surprises of God
285. The beauty of 4 seasons in New England
286. His Creation- continual source of inspiration, hope and beauty.

On this last note I leave a quote of encouragement from the amazing
  Dietrich Bonhoeffer journey
I am on from Bible Gateway:

When people are deeply affected by the Word, they tell it to other people. God has willed that we should seek and find God’s living Word in the testimony of other Christians, in the mouths of human beings. Therefore, Christians need other Christians who speak God’s Word to them. They need them again and again when they become uncertain and disheartened.
D. Bonhoeffer

May your week be full of fellow Christ – Followers
who speak words of life into your life, Friend!
