How’s about an egg prompt for a Saturday morning, Haloween no less…a full moon on the horizon too. This is the second Full moon for October 2020 which means it will be a Blue Moon. To top all that off it’s Daylight Savings Time. So what’s all that got to do with the prompt? I’ll let you be the judge…or the author of that!
Prompt 77– A good egg
Let’s start with egg-cellent memories of eggs, shall we? What comes to your mind when I mention eggs? Chickens, yolks, egg whites? Breakfasts present or past, childhood memories? Big Sunday breakfasts, or athletic training? Eggs in the blender raw, or thrown at the fair? Eggs gathered fresh from the nest, or found, pale blue, cracked on the ground? Eggs, eggs, good eggs and bad eggs, fresh eggs, and stale and specific details about eggs that stick in your mind. Like my cousin Penny who I remember still, could never be served the “eye” in her eggs. Isn’t it funny the things we remember about things we forgot when we start to thinking about things we remember about things like eggs? (I double dawg dare you to say that sentence three times fast. Or even once!)
Respond to one of these quotes about eggs:
Noise proves nothing. Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she laid an asteroid. ~Mark Twain (I include this quote because it both annoys me and gives me a laugh- however only a man would ever dare write this foolishness, having never himself given birth- it’s obvious I have a lot to journal about Mr. Twain’s folly)
Words and eggs must be handled with care. Once broken they are impossible things to repair. ~ Anne Sexton
I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am. ~Dr. Seuss (I could not NOT include Dr. Seuss in any reasonable egg discussion, really, now!)
It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. ~C. S. Lewis
Just write about “a good egg” you know or have known. Or about what it means to be a good egg.
