In God We Trust?

You alone are Faithful,

You alone give joy,

You alone bring peace to

every girl and boy-

to every parent crying out

mercy in the night-

and those remaining hungry,

who’ve given up the fight.

For those who thirst for righteousness-

who seek you

in the dark,

bullied by fears, gunfire

and the sound of ticking clock.

Lord, You alone are faithful;

there is no other place to hide.

from escalating confusion

and hate on every side.

Fools rule the cities,

discontent’s a mounting theme-

Not one seeks Your glory,

Nothing’s as it seems.

Your return is imminent-

Arouse us from our dreams…

let us turn from our selfish ways

and walk as those redeemed.

Remind us of our make up,

that we’ll return to dust-

ashes in the wind,

if in man’s hand we do trust…

For You alone are faithful,

these words I write are true.

Lead us to repentance, Lord,

Let our hope return to You.

  1. Lovely poem, Dawn!

I was just noticing how “In God We Trust” is written on the ten dollar bill. (I was in the drive-thru line at Chick-Fil-A.) It is really a beautiful font and a simple beautiful phrase– not so simple.
