I know this-
the heart has longings
the mind
cannot comprehend.
*
Packed down dirt road
beneath these hooves,
skies aflame-
above.
Air minus toxic fumes
still, where is the love?
Evergreen walls
abound-
reach beyond
and I know fear is a liar,
wind at my back.
My heart longs to roam,
kick up dust
buck established ways-
race sunset
setting path ablaze.
I tear into freedom
not looking back
shakin’ off the days
escaping this track.
*
Now…
you know.

Thank you, Summer. I love your name, but you must know I am writing a blog post today about SUMMER, titled Dear Summer. Your name came up and gave me a smile at the irony in timing. 😉

The first four lines are perfectly capable of standing alone as a very powerful poem.

The heart’s longings definitely need to be listened to! What it longs far should be followed.

This speaks loudly to my Northern NV self where mustangs still roam. Sometimes for meditation I just image that wonderful freedom. Lovely, Dawn. That photo…wow!

Fear is a liar….so very good. I so enjoyed this, especially the opening lines. I am a great lover of horseback riding and when one can let it go, without fear of fences or obstacles getting in the way, how glorious it is to just be free and let it all go.

First off, the title is brilliant and it beckons the reader into the piece…then THIS:
“My heart longs to roam,
kick up dust
buck established ways-
race sunset
setting path ablaze.”
Wow. YES! What could be a better, more beautifully depicted disclosure than that? I love it 🙂
