Then followed that beautiful season… Summer….
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What comes to your mind when I say the word “Summer”?

Summertime, as in any season of life can bring with it both joyful and painful memories. As I ponder the memories and experiences Summer has brought my way, I can’t help but consider how circumstances and perspective shape our perception. Summer reminds me of friends and family no longer on this side of eternity sharing the journey. Summer also prompts me to be available and present to a brief and passing season- one which offers easy laughter among strangers on sunny days, and tomatoes red, fat and ripe from the vine ready for picking. Summer holds up a Stop sign to our stuffed-to-the gills schedules, giving us permission to relax, pause, reflect.

Summer, is an old friend, we long to catch up with, knowing she’s only in town for a short time. If we don’t plan to enjoy her presence, she will have flown South with the birds, leaving us sad for missing her beautiful offerings and easygoing ways.

If Summer could speak, she’d alert us with her smile and direct gaze to the preciousness of the moment.

Whatever your plans are for this Summer, I’d like to invite you to stop by here each week for a special series of Devotional Writings with a seaside twist one would expect from beach season. Kick your flip-flops off and join me on the sand, breathe deep the salty air. Let’s seek the One who refreshes our souls and renews our hearts and let Him refresh our faith lives all Summer long. Amen?

Could almost smell the salt water and feel the sand under my feet like when I was a child there. Very thankful for summer and all it brings. Reminds me to enjoy the air conditioning all the more! It IS Houston, ya know.

Yes, I will definitely follow a Summer Devotional – with a “beach-y” theme! Not much for getting out into the HEAT of the Summer months, here in Florida; but am sure that those who live up north are happy for the NO SNOW part of it…and the warmer weather.

Thanks for yet another opportunity to worship the wonders of our God!

Dawn- I’m in! I love all things SUMMER! And I love your insights! I may even use them for Ant Kamp…I’ll be sharing life with my nieces and nephews for the rest of the summer! God is so good in his timing…usually I watch them at the beginning of the summer…God knew I needed something to look forward for the second part of this particular summer. Also can I copy you on taking a week off from social media??? I think you are very smart 🙂
