This poem still resonates.

Sometimes social media news feeds can leave one feeling starved for sustenance. I am tired of the messages I see lately all over the internet. It brought to mind this poem I wrote a few years back. I struggle to find my voice and discern my own thoughts with the continual pouring out of opinions experienced on any given day.

I give you my offering for the days I have felt like running away from it all, including the sound bites I create in my mind in response to all of it.

When You Feel Like a Failure

Nothing is more beautiful than a strong, humble, God-fearing woman who knows who she is and Whose she is. ~Susie Larson

The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

Psalm 37: 23-24

It was a blue sky, sunshine morning but before my eyes confirmed this reality, I sensed a heaviness in my heart. It was as if the devil camped at the foot of my bed all night waiting to pounce on me before I stepped foot out of bed. Even as I tried to shake off the negative vibe, I felt like reminders of my lack peered back at me at every turn. The message in my mind was loud and clear, flashing repeatedly in neon, “Failure”.

Weakened, I repeatedly asked God to strengthen me, recognizing the wiles of the enemy, but not prepared for this particular early morning attack. As one who loves to rise early, and does so quite happily, the “surprise” attack should not really have surprised me, but honestly it did. I write this after the fact which gives evidence to the cunning ways of the Thief of our days.

Lament for the Day

Yes, I care about trees,

disease

sharks and bees

and the unnecessary murder

of  innumerable babies-

in the womb,

or out.

When You Are Betrayed By a Friend

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Proverbs 27:6

While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.

Luke 22:47

I sat in the office, legs crossed, leaning forward as I shared my latest idea with my trusted friend.  He and I were working in the same field and though he had offered me a position when he opened his own fitness facility, I had accepted another offer elsewhere at the time. I never suspected I had to carefully guard the idea I excitedly shared with this person, after all, we were friends, right?

The Jaws of Sin VS. Absolute Truth

“Look, Chief, you can’t go off half-cocked looking for vengeance against a fish. That shark isn’t evil. It’s not a murderer. It’s just obeying its own instincts. Trying to get retribution against a fish is crazy.” ― Peter Benchley, Jaws

As we come to the end of the most wonderful week of the year…ahem, Shark Week. I bring you the next post in my Summer Series, which was coincidentally, originally written in 2012 for my brethren, during Shark Week!

Jaws is one of my all time favorite movies and the greatest of Summer reads – for those who dare. Because I have watched it often, since it’s release in 1975, I have thought about it many times, both inside and outside the water.

If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Genesis 4:7
