Bird on a Roof

I lie awake; I have become
like a bird alone on a roof.

Psalm 102:7

Bird On A Roof

I have always been

a bird on a roof…

vulnerable,

perhaps-

but open.

I have always been a bird on a roof…

exposed.

 Hawks flying overhead,

gathering above,

yet I remain-

fearless,

perhaps.

But, still prey.

I have always been a bird on a roof…

yearning to soar,

though crippled

from the nest.

Still hopeful, perhaps.

I have always been a bird on a roof…

waiting.

But today-

no more.

God alone is my comfort.

God alone is my strength.

I have always been a bird on a roof.

But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;
your renown endures through all generations.

Psalm 102:12

Let this be written for a future generation,
that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:
“The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,
from heaven he viewed the earth,
to hear the groans of the prisoners
and release those condemned to death.”

Psalm 102: 18-20

Beautiful! Love this…I need to sit in quiet and try my hand at poetry – again!

Thanks for sharing! (I was preparing my blog for tomorrow’s Random Journal Day and stumbled across this post!!).

Loving a little free verse–and that poor little fellow on the roof. You do inspire me to break down and publish some of my poems. I keep them hidden away, for some reason, even though I did self publish them in 2012 in a volume sampler. Not the same as posting on my blog. But, you have gotten me back in the swing of things with journaling. Why not poetry, too.
    Joy!
