Ocean

Lord, You are not unlike the ocean

sun reflecting off the water

a blinding, shimmering

brightness

I squint, barely able to look into the beauty.

Vast is the sea-

beyond all knowing.

Yet, I long to know it’s depths

as I long to know yours.

What wonders and amazing discoveries await…

as voyagers explore the deep

eyes are open to unknown mysteries

reserved for the willing who seek.

Lord, You are not unlike the ocean

I am nourished

by the sea’s melody

It’s language a symphony

of hisses, roars and splashes.

Your voice,

like the waves

continuous testimony

ever present

yet not always heard.

Your language is foreign to those who forsake your love,

but kisses dance on the foreheads of we who belong

to Love

each breeze a reminder

of your faithfulness.

Lord you are not unlike the ocean.

A glorious, powerful presence-

unrelenting

 dangerous beauty

not containable

always available

unpredictable…

There is no arguing with the sea.

But, Lord, the sea is not like you.

For you are merciful, ever faithful

you relentlessly pursue those you love.

You run toward your children

with open arms

rejoicing with song

at the first signs of dawn

You adorn us with truth

Renewing each of us to our own unique beauty

reflecting your glory and goodness.

You let us shine, shine, shine

in your own ordained time.

Lord, you are not unlike the ocean.
