Sustained

large_4934509454

Nothing but empty pockets
Outstretched empty hands
Nothing to hang on to
As I travel this barren land

My efforts go unnoticed,
the world continues to demand
Competing for my attention
I hold out for your command

I’ve got nothing to compel me
Nothing to distract
Your face is all I see
And I will not turn back

Lord, I’m sustained by the hours
I sit at your feet
And I know I’m transformed
In these moments we meet

I’ve made a mess of my life
But I gave it back to you
You said you’d give it back to me – But completely new

You’d turn the wrongs to righteousness
By the blood you spilled for me
Walk me all the way home
From the cross of Calvary

Lord, I know you’re faithful
And I look forward to the day
When your very real presence
Will bring me home to stay

I’m sustained in the meantime
By these hours in time
When you whisper to this daughter
“Child, you are mine.”

Though my needs are few
my wants are often many
But after spending time with you
I’m convinced I’ve plenty

Lord, I’m sustained
By the love you gave
And I can never add a thing
BUT in you I’m brave
As I trust in you and remain
With you, my Lord-
I am sustained.

To God be the Glory, today and always. 4/18/14

Your poetry is always full of hope… or am I just apt to turn up on the days they are. Good Friday to you. I’ve been distracted and MIA too but vow to improve.

Your poem whets my appetite to spend more moments at Jesus’ feet…been frantic like Martha lately…in great need of some Mary type time…doing that one thing…listening at His feet. Thanks Dawn! Happy Easter!

Oh my friend. I just popped on before heading to bed and see you have posted something as well that makes me want to go read and explore but this chick is soooo tired. Catching up tomorrow. DId some collage tonight and thought of you, with your upcoming workshop. If only! Happy Easter to you as well!

Hi Dawn! Love the truth in these words. He is really all we need. Isn’t it? And we love because he first loved us…..and we keep on.

Hi Dawn, thanks for stopping by Three Way Light (it was so nice of Kel to add a link to my place along with yours!)
I really like these first lines of your poem:
    “Nothing but empty pockets
    Outstretched empty hands
    Nothing to hang on to
As I travel this barren land”.
They reminded me of a new worship song we just learned about climbing a mountain with our hands wide open, only holding on to Jesus.

    Hard to do!
(I love your new site–clean and pretty!)
    God bless you.
