Me First! (Whispers of Hope Week 9)

For this is what the high and exalted One says– he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. ~Isaiah 57:15

I sat at my desk, prayer journal and Bible open…I wrote the word Praise, fell face first on to the pages and wept. The needs I had witnessed around me over the course of the week overwhelmed me to the point of despair… before God.

But it is in the act of going before Him, especially in this despair, that He is able to transform this needy child crying out… to the woman of grace He knows is His.

We choose in trials to move toward or away from God. We choose to rely on Self, or Savior.

However there are days when the burdens are too great. God opens our eyes to the pain of others and we are broken up within knowing that others despair… but have no Savior to turn their eyes upon. Friends, that is true despair.

I want to tell you,  that morning I cried before God was a morning when I did not feel like praying, journaling, reading a devotional, opening my Bible. But, I went to the place I knew I could cry out to Him. I showed up when I felt like shrugging Him off. I went before Him, weary, wordless and wounded. I know if that is all I did that day, it would have been OK with the One who is High and Exalted, who also dwells with His wounded children. He accepts our tears, our non-melodious cries. He hears us calling from the desert and meets us with water for our parched lips and thirsty souls. He wraps us up in HIS Everlasting arms and comforts us.

In a word, He revives us…

…O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63.1

Before I can even go to earnestly seek Him, He is already running to meet me with Living Water.

Friends, He longs to meet with you. He yearns to hold your despairing heart in His hands and sing over you …this is my child, and I love this child with a jealous, everlasting love. I will never, ever forsake this precious one.

He accepts your sacrifice of a broken spirit and contrite heart… do not withhold your tears. He is looking for worshippers like you and me.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” ~John 14:23-24

So if you’re tired, weary, discouraged and aren’t “feelin’ it”. If feel you want to you stomp your feet, and cry or just cry out, “What about me?” If you feel you can’t pray one more prayer for anyone else because your heart is heavier than a lead ball. If you feel like He’s forgotten you or everyone else is on His “favorite” list this week, or year but you… It’s OK, to lay your head on the table and cry out…” Me first!”.

But, know this: He would rather hear your complaints and cries, than all of the reasons why, you don’t have time to sit at the feet of the One who has given… everything to make a way  for that amazing dialogue to take place. Come to Jesus…

It is our final week with Whispers of Hope…I have plans to continue with weekly Sunday posts for continuing to make meeting with Him daily the #1 priority of my day and I want to extend the invitation to you anew. If you believe time with Him daily in prayer is something you would like to continue working on and want to meet up here each Sunday for a quick check in, let me know.

My dear friend Cecelia sent me a link to this post about Knowing God. I think it is worth your read. Short but powerful: The Narrow Door.

I look forward to hearing how you are doing… and if you are just dropping in and not doing Whispers of Hope, feel free to join in with your comment about your own challenges with maintaining a quiet time with the Lord.

Don’t forget to enter the Giveaway through 5 Minutes for Mom-Link in this post:  I am giving away an awesome Quiet Time Goody Bag!

He’s doing it again — everywhere I turn I’m finding it all related to the last one: devotionals, studies I’m involved in, today’s sermon. My prayer is still for our Fruitful Congregation Journey invitation. I’m not at all sure what my part is in urging others to commit to this journey; but I’m sure that there is something/someone I’m supposed to be encouraging to join in. I’m asking for prayers to have this revealed to me.
I would like to continue to be included in your Sunday accountability Dawn.

Oh my goodness, there are so many parts of this that I love…… “But it is in the act of going before Him, especially in this despair, that He is able to transform this needy child crying out… to the woman of grace He knows is His.”
So good and rich and your words pull us out of our muck. Thank you Dawn!

This is so true:”We choose in trials to move toward or away from God. We choose to rely on Self, or Savior.” So glad you went to God with your despair and I pray you were encouraged…Thanks for encouraging me 🙂

Thanks for the beautiful words and the great reminder that God wants us to come to him no matter what shape we are in…he just wants us to come. I fell off the whispers of hope wagon big time last week, but I’m trying to get back on!

Great timing, Kathleen! Congrats on your new endeavor and position with KW! Hop back aboard the wagon! We will be continuing to meet up on Sunday and perhaps (if you can squeeze in the time) you can check in as you continue the 70 day journey wherever you left off… something to consider. I will be continuing to prayer journal and share here Sundays! Thanks for checking in! Carry on.

    I love this truth, Dawn:
“I know if that is all I did that day, it would have been OK with the One who is High and Exalted, who also dwells with His wounded children.”

Sometimes I need to scrap my well-designed “quiet time” and just cry out to God for mercy. He just wants us to want Him, however that looks on any given day. I’m grateful! Thanks for sharing this.
