Wasted energy
and much groaning
avail nothing
but longing
and painful endurance…
the loins produce
both
blessing and cursing
good and evil
pleasure and pain
life and death
ripe fruit unpicked rots
falls
to the ground
disintegrates,
becomes
nothing.
She pauses-
considers biting hard
the apple,
that brings
that brings
sweet satisfaction
and
regret…
instead
biting the lip,
lets it fall from her hand
for one
more day.

I like how the last stanza leaves open the possibility that she'll choose differently on a different day. Very true to life, I think.

Um: are we talking Eve here? It must have been incredibly boring in the Garden of Eden! I'm still hoping there will be a happy ever after!
