Release {One Word 2013}

So I have to confess again, that when I began to consider the One Word challenge for 2013, I found myself faced with a word I really would not choose. Whereas with the word “Less” from last year I admit I would not choose it but could see immediately the wisdom and also a verse came to my mind clearly (John 3:30).

This time I was driving my car and chatting with Jesus (please tell me I am not the only one who talks to God in the shower and while driving) and sharing with Him how I could see that Less could be my word for two years because it really is ongoing…this business of Him being greater and me being less. Instead He seemed to impress upon me that He had a different word and it was Release. Now I know He is my Lord. He is God. But me being mortal (even with immortality seed within) turned to that invisible but present passenger and with my best “your will not mine” attitude (which is not hidden to him by the way) thought to myself, “Um no”, and said nothing. I felt the Him, impress upon me, it was His will and word. Someday I know He will speak and I will say “Yes, Lord”. It is my heart’s desire. Yet, I still am mostly a kicking and screaming kind of disciple. I still in the deep areas of my inner most being resist Him. But I am also still willing. And He takes that willingness and molds it. So here we go again. I know there is wisdom in His choice. I surrender the many words I would choose that are swimming around my head and I lean and trust on the One who really is trustworthy and knows best.

I currently have no verse that comes to mind. Does one pop into your head for me? But instead of playing Bible  roulette, as I sought to write this post, I went to the dictionary, my second favorite book and hoped for enlightenment.

Below as appeared in The Free Online Dictionary I was immediately humbled. I am not sure what is ahead for me, but only know God has something good in it. For 2013 God has revealed to me my One Word will be Release. I surrender my will to His and say…Bring It!

    Loved this. The blog post, the Scrapbook Page stand. The word. You rock, my friend. And no…you're NOT the only person who speaks to God in the shower, while driving (SO thankful for the Bluetooth…people now think I'm on the phone!!!), while on walks at the track. You're in good company, girl. Psychotic company, but good company nonetheless. Funny thing…today, I was reading Philippians 2 in a study Bible I haven't picked up in a while, but used quite a bit in past years. In verse 7, it speaks of Christ making Himself as nothing, or emptying Himself. I have that verse highlighted with a side notation that says the Greek term used here was 'Kenosis,' meaning 'to let go.' Release? I also thought of Ephesians 4:31 & Colossians 3:8. But really…I believe that God will put what HE wants on your heart. All in His good timing, dear BBFF! The happiest of new years to you and yours!

    Aaah yes… I am rather familiar with this Word… I hadn't ever heard of OneWord365 or anything like that – but signed up for a Scrapbooking class for 2012 called One Little Word and my word chose me and was… wait for it… Releasing. I lived with it day in and day out and from month to month took on the challenges in the class to capture how it was active in my life. I can not WAIT to see what all it unfolds and releases in and through you! I went through quotes and scriptures and took photographs and made art pieces all based on Releasing! All I can say is you are in for a great ride! My word this year has once again come to me and chose me and all the while I am not so sure about it!? I am praying it through today to see if I will give in to it – or chose another! 😉

    I love your one word for 2013 Dawn! It's a bit like my surrender. I know I for one need to remember to release it all to Him. Focusing on this will be helpful for me.

    Dawn, we have so much in common. My car and my shower are my church away from church! That's where I worship, I chat, I process, I pray and wait on Him. Love your word. And, I love that verse. It was a memory verse in my house in November. Celebrating who you are and what He plans on doing in you and through you this year!

    Love this!! Can't wait to see how you grow from this. The one verse that came to mind for me is Isaiah 61:3: To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”I know it doesn't say release…but to my mind was that if I don't release the negative that God can't replace it with the positive.

    Wow–I love that “release” is your word. What a beautiful choice.I relate to this:”I surrender the many words I would choose that are swimming around my head and I lean and trust on the One who really is trustworthy and knows best.”There were lots of words swimming around in my head, too. So hard to settle one just one. It had to settle on me…
